Safety

Indoor climbing does involve risk. But when practiced correctly, indoor climbing is a very safe sport. The most common cause of injury is overuse, mostly in the fingers and hands.

Safety is alway a priority at Coyote Rock Gym, and the following procedures are in place to make sure that everyone has a pleasant and safe climbing experience:

- Our staff is always monitoring the climbing areas and are available to answer any questions you have. However, your safety is entirely in your own hands and we emphasize personal responsibility and proper training. If you don't know or are unsure, ASK!

-  Top-roped belayers must pass take the Introductory Lesson or pass the belay certification test

- all repeat customers are required to sign on all subsequent visits and are advised to seek a 'refresher' intro course if they are unsure about any of the safety procedures

- All lead climbers must take the Lead course or pass the Lead test

- All top-roped routes use an auto-locking belay device called a Peztl Gri-Gri which is in our opinion, much safer than other belay methods

- Our top-roped and lead areas have padding consisting of 2" of shaved rubber tires, 2" or high density foam, carpet and 2" of Qued Zorblite gym mats

- Bouldering areas have the addition of 4" Qued Competition mats or 6" Qued crash mats.

- moveable Qued gym mats are located throughout the gym so a climber feels they need more protection they may freely add padding

- All climbers must follow the gym safety rules which are posted on the Safety Board by the main entrance to the gym
