Coyote Rock Gym has over 18 000 square feet of climbing. Our facilities include six dedicated bouldering areas, lead and toprope routes, two dedicated training areas, and programs for youth and adults from beginners to national competitors. Our routesetters are constantly putting up new routes and boulder problems of all styles and skill levels. Coyote has something for everyone!
Bouldering
The gym features six large bouldering areas which offer different styles of climbing. Bouldering is a great way to hone climbing technique and movement.
Ropes are not required for bouldering as your hands are not allowed to go above 12 feet off the ground. This means that the only equipment needed to boulder are climbing shoes and liquid chalk – both are available to rent at the front desk. Since climbers can boulder without partners, bouldering is a popular way for solo climbers to meet other solo climbers who could then be potential belay partners for rope climbing.
All non-member youth boulderers under the age of 14 must have a parent present with them for the duration of their stay. Please note that there are bouldering areas in the gym which are off limits to boulderers under the age of 14, unless they are a member.

Top-Rope Climbing
The gym has over 40 dedicated top-rope walls with routes for all levels ranging from 5.4 (beginner) up to 5.13 (advanced).
First, every climber using our roped routes needs a partner on the ground managing the ropes for the climber’s safety. This person is called a “belayer.” In order to climb and/or belay at Coyote Rock Gym, you will need to complete a Top-Rope Lesson. To be eligible to belay in the gym, you must be 14 years of age. New belayers will be allowed to belay unsupervised only after they have demonstrated safe technique to our staff.
If you are already trained to belay with a gri-gri belay device, you don’t need to take the lesson. You simply need to pass our Belay Test in which you demonstrate proficiency in belaying/lowering to our CRG staff.
Both the Top-Rope Lesson and the Belay Test are offered free of charge.
There is no charge for adults who are learning to belay for children, but are not climbing themselves. However, adults who are not climbing but still belaying must take the Top-Rope Lesson and fill out a waiver

Lead Climbing
Coyote has a large dedicated lead climbing area that also hosts 2 overhung roof sections!
Lead climbing is a more advanced form of rope-climbing and offers great progression for those who already have several months of top-rope experience. In order to lead climb at Coyote, climbers are required to pass our Lead Test.
If you are new to the gym and are interested in learning more about our lead climbing certification process, visit our Lead Course page Here!
