If your child wants to climb on the roped routes, they must have a “belayer”. Usually, the belayer is a parent, but can be a sibling or friend as long as they are at least 14 years of age and have taken the Coyote Rock Gym Introductory Lesson. If you wish to learn to belay for your child or a small group of up to 3 children, then you may take the CRG Introductory Lesson and become belay certified for our gym. You will learn how to properly tie knots and use a belay device provided (Petzl Gri-Gri) so you can work with your child on an ongoing basis!

We suggest one adult belayer for every 3 child children. If you have 6 or more kids then please look at our Group page for more information on bringing in larger groups of youth climbers.

Any youth climbers between the age of 14 and 17 must demonstrate that they remember all safety procedures taught in the Introductory Lesson. Before they can climb, they must return to the front desk to get their harness checked and do their first climb on the green or grey wall under the supervision of a Coyote Rock Gym staff member.

VERY IMPORTANT! All climbers MUST have a Coyote Rock Gym  Ltd. liability waiver completed before they can participate in any activities at Coyote Rock Gym. Climbers under the age of 18 must have a waiver completed by a parent or legal guardian. The waiver is available for download on the Waiver Form’s page.

**PARENTS PLEASE NOTE:
The Coyote Rock Gym Introductory Lesson requires your undivided attention! We do not provide child sitting services while you are in your lesson. If you are coming with young children (under the age of 4), please bring an extra person to supervise them while you concentrate on learning our safety procedures.  There is no extra admission fee for those who are not climbing.

The gym is not an appropriate place for infants or toddlers. The youngest age in which we would suggest children start climbing at Coyote Rock Gym would be at the age of 4.
